TAFE Talent at Swinburne
I am writing to share my reflections on some inspiring visits I had to parts of our Swinburne TAFE community last week.
I was fortunate to visit our Croydon and Wantirna campuses and meet staff and students at both of these locations. I was extremely impressed with the evident dedication to high quality teaching and the notable teamwork and positive camaraderie at both campuses.
The new facilities at the Croydon campus are excellent and it was pleasing to see meaningful blended learning in action. The programs offered to students at both campuses are meeting the needs of a wide range of students and I was struck by the holistic approach to supporting students in their learning and in the transitions they are making through their education at Swinburne.
The Wantirna campus was alive with building and development projects and demonstrable sustainability principles in practice. We are extremely fortunate to be the practice site for our horticulture students whose creative, high quality work graces the campus creating a welcoming and inviting environment for learning and innovation.
I was also delighted to attend the opening of the Limited Edition 2011 at the Prahran campus showcasing the exceptional work of our Swinburne Diploma of Graphic Design students. The talent on display was prominent and the commitment of the teachers to ensure that students benefit from cutting-edge industry linked education evident. I also attended the opening night of CODA, the latest production of the National Institute of Circus Arts where 23 Advanced Diploma students put on a spectacular display of circus feats, balancing acts and high energy dance. It made me enormously proud of the diversity of opportunities that Swinburne is able to offer individuals.
In the midst of busy days it is important to pause and recognise the good work of our staff and students. In recognising each others achievements I hope you feel the vicarious pride I experienced.
